Product Description

The Maxxum 7000 is a great autofocus camera for both the beginner and intermediate photographer. In "Program" mode, it is as simple to use as a "point and shoot" camera, yet has the flexibility of Maxxum's interchangeable lens system. To expand your creative control, you can select "Aperture-priority" mode (to control background blur), "Shutter-priority" mode (action pictures) or go completely manual and control both functions. The camera beeps if you are at risk of taking a blurry picture (due to a slow shutter speed) and also to let you know you are in focus. As well, the unit gives visual cues if exposure or focus are out of range. It's pretty hard to take a bad picture with this camera! I

By D. Mazzei
back in the 1980s i had this camera. sold it and used many others since then. i've acquired the maxxum 7000 again and wouldn't trade it for anything this time around. in my opinion and sure there are others out there, this one is best in my book. way to go minolta!

5Great camera
By EPA316
I drooled over this camera in the magazine ads in the 1980's, and drove the people at the camera store nuts asking to see one over and over, and finally got my own in 1989. I got the same setup advertised in the magazines: the camera body with the 35-70 AF zoom and the 2800 flash. I don't think I put it down for about 2 weeks. The autofocus was fast (at the time,) and the exposures were always good. I loved how it set the aperture AND shutter speed for you, and it had a motor drive, and that there were many accessories available. I expanded my lens collection and a few other items as well. Later on, however, once the wonder wore off, I missed some of the manual control of the X-370 and X-700 cameras, and I realized that the autofocus speed was rapidly being left in the dust.
Still, this is a very important camera, since when it came out in 1985 it was the world's first complete autofocus camera system with the AF motors in the camera, not in the lens as an add-on to a regular non-AF camera. For a buyer today, it would be a good backup camera if anyone is still using film out there. Honestly though, I suspect it will appeal more to collectors and people wanting to recapture a cool camera they had in the 80's for nostalgia.

5Good Camera but Rarely Used
By DW
I bought this camera for a class I haven't taken yet (in Black and White Photography) so I haven't used it much, only 1 roll of color film so far because my Sony Digital SLR takes easier pictures and I can see the results right away instead of waiting for the film to be developed first. It does take excellent pictures on film in either the Automatic Modes or in the Manual Mode and they both work well. I got the camera for the class and the fact that the lenses for the Minolta Maxxum and my Sony Alpha A330 are exchangeable so all I have to buy is one set of lenses for both cameras. The flash attachment works very well on the Minolta but doesn't seem to fit the shoe on my Sony, but all the other parts fit both cameras (as Sony bought out Minolta Corp. a few years ago). I am just a beginner in photography so right now I prefer my digital camera but once I learn how to take pictures without using automatic on them, than the Minolta will be an excellent camera to use because everything works on it as advertised by the seller. It came in a quick shipment to me and the manual was fairly easy for me to understand. To anyone wanting an excellent, older workable camera model that is fairly cheap to buy, I would recommend getting one of the Minolta Maxxum series cameras, the oldest which is a 7000.
