Product Description
Now you can take close-up shots like you've never taken before. Opteka proudly presents the next generation of HD² Macro lenses. These Close-Up diopters, which just like filters are simply screwed onto the front of the existing camera lens, permits taking super close-ups and makes possible the photography of details which would be otherwise impossible. The built-in lens on most digital cameras cannot focus on any object closer than a certain minimum distance. The Opteka close-up lens set, which is simply mounted in the front of the cameras built-in lens, permits the taking of extreme close-ups in stunning detail. The easy to use solution for getting extra close. This lens will enable you to get much closer than the minimum focus of the standard camera lens - as close as 4 inches from the subject. Ideal for cataloging small items and focusing on details.
Your pictures are only as good as the glass in your lens.
Nothing changes the way you see the world like High Definition², and no company does High Definition² like Opteka. In the professional setting, Opteka's glass optics defines High Definition. Change the way you view the world. Enjoy outstanding detail, enjoy enhanced clarity, enjoy Opteka.
Advances in high-index / low-dispersion optical glasses, new barrel materials, and exotic anti-reflection coatings, along with the latest in computer-aided-design / computer-aided-manufacturing, are combined to produce lenses of unprecedented quality. Diamond-cut from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, Opteka lenses are ground and polished to a precise precision.
Opteka lenses stand up to the most rigorous demands on the stage and on location. Opteka's hard anti-reflective (AR) coating offers protection specially formulated to resist flaking, peeling and scratching. This proprietary AR coating also reduces light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface, compared to untreated glass which has a light loss of 4% per surface.

Useful for Various Kinds of Closeup Photogrphy
By WILLIAM MCLEAN
Of course expensive closeup lenses are best for closeup photography. But I just cannot afford the best. Fortunately, the Opteka closeup lens set is a reasonable compromise. Most of closeup photo sharpness is achieved by keeping the camera steady and properly focused.
A front element closeup lens set has one thing clearly in its favor: using one, two, or more in tandem, does not reduce the amount of light coming through the lens. That means higher shutter speeds and/or greater depth of field is available. And with a single adapter I am able to use these lenses on several different focal length lenses in my collection. All this gives me lots of options when shooting closeup. I can use telephoto, zoom lenses, and even fish eye lenses with front element lenses.
Most important to this review is that the Opteca lens set produces as sharp an image as any other front elements closeup lenses I have ever tried.

Good starter's macro kit.
By Joshua Tailswish
I bought these lenses to use with my Canon S5 IS, though I had to purchase a Canon conversion lens adapter LA-DC58E. I found that they did indeed help me take much closer photos, but lighting is a huge problem. With an adapter tube on the camera, its barrel is long enough to cast a shadow over what you're photographing. A slave flash would fix this, and there are online guides on how to make your own 'ring flash' that's basically a ring of LEDs around the edge of your camera lens. If possible, use a tripod or simply rest the camera on a table. The focal length can be tricky to find and trickier to maintain, and holding the camera in your hands is bound to mess up your shot.

Better than expected (and expections were low)
By J. Carlson
My expectations weren't that great knowing that these types of lens can really be poor quality. The 2x & 4x lenses were better than I had expected (although not as good as a true macro lens), the 1x was uninspiring, and the 10x had very poor quality (might as well just throw that one out). For someone who doesn't have a macro lens, this is better than nothing for the price (don't expect sharp results, even with a tripod). I'm still hoping to eventually get that 100 mm macro in the future.
