Memory cards should be purchased according to how high the resolution or DPI (dots per inch) of your digital camera is (i.e. how many megapixels it has), and how many pictures you plan on taking at a time. This card reader works great in our PCs and in our Macs. I can't comment on Vista, since I've gone to a mac rather than deal with Vista. The SD card that comes with it is just an added bonus.

Transcend 8 GB SDHC Card & Reader Combo
Bought this because my old reader would not recognize SDHC cards and the price was right. The reader and card both perform as advertised. You may have to invest in a short cord depending on where your USB port is located. I had no problem plugging the reader and card into an open port on my keyboard.

Got this within the time I expected. Included Card reader works well and also reads my older non HC SD card. I bought this to work with my Palm TX. Alone the Palm TX is not compatible with SDHC cards but with a driver called PowerSDHC by palmpowerups.com it read this 8GB card fine. As for the read/write speeds using the included card reader, it performs similarly to other USB memory sticks I've used before if not better.
